Real estate agents are very unique people who will come into your life, help you make the largest purchase you will ever make and then never see you again. Therefore, you need to make sure that you are picking the one who will help you wisely.
The first thing to consider when picking a real estate agent is how much experience they have. Do not just look at someone and suppose that they have experience. Appearances can be deceiving. It would be beneficial to look up their credentials online. If they have received any awards or recognition in their field then they are probably good at what they do.
Second, you need to make sure that you get along with this person. You may be spending weeks with this person, calling them and emailing them. If they are someone that is experienced and highly recommended but that you cannot stand, then you need to consider someone else.One of my friends told me that her agent only wanted her to buy a one bedroom condo even though she wanted to buy a large home because she was a single woman, needless to say the agent was fired. You also need to make sure that your agent is giving you the amount of time that you deserve. You will not be their only client, but if it takes weeks to get ahold of them or they are dealing with other clients at the same time that they are dealing with you, reconsider.
Also consider if the your agent is really listening to you. If they are only showing you listings at the top of your price range or homes that you can’t afford or are not in the area that you want, then you need to reconsider your choice.
